We receive many requests from people wishing to participate in our work experience programme, and we have a track record of former participants finding full-time work in publishing and the Film/TV industries, both in the UK and overseas. We have a very limited number of places available.
Due to the type of work required of our interns, participants who are not native English speakers must have TOEFL level English or equivalent.
We are unable to help with finding accommodation in London or other part-time work whilst you are with us.
Book Department
We are currently offering only one book work experience position at a time for a student on a course, alongside part-time contracts for short-term book department assistants, at basic minimum wage pay.
We are unable to take on students who aren't at least in their second year of an undergraduate course (or equivalent). You must be required by your course to take up a work experience placement. We can only offer places to individuals who have a keen interest in a career in publishing or book agenting.
We offer work experience placements for a minimum of three weeks.
Please send an email with your CV, covering letter and the dates you are available to: info@blakefriedmann.co.uk - a member of staff will respond to you shortly.
Film Department
The film department welcomes applications from students in at least their second year of study for whom work experience in the film and television industry is a required part of their current university course, or will earn them academic credit. Placements are for a minimum of 3 weeks and are full time.
We also welcome applications from university graduates for a part-time internship of 25 hours a week at basic minimum wage pay. We can be flexible about how these hours are worked, though we would ask for a commitment of three months, on a freelance contract basis.
We are only able to offer one position at a time.
Please email your CV, a covering letter telling us why you would like to apply and the dates you are available to info@blakefriedmann.co.uk. Preference will be given to those applicants who have a proven interest in pursuing a career in a literary agency, or in film and television development and production.
Some of the feedback we have received:
'I feel that my script reading abilities have improved enormously during my stay at Blake Friedmann.'
'Far from playing an observational role I was delighted not only to be thrown into the work but also to have the work that I accomplished taken seriously.'
'It was really refreshing to see a company that encourages work experience and placement types to muck in.'
