ETERNAL MUSIC

Historical novels

Thig crìoch air an t-saoghal ach mairidh gaol is ceòl. [The world may end, but love and music will last forever] (Gaelic proverb)

A series of three novels...loosely inter-related, spanning three centuries of love and war, drama, romance, suspense and adventure. Centred in the Highland and Islands of Scotland but, with each novel, reaching out in ever-widening circles like the ripples in a pool. Breathing life - vivid, rich, authentic, detailed - into the diaspora: the winds that forced the Celtic peoples of Scotland and Ireland to leave their traditional homelands, dispersing them throughout the world, changing their indigenous way of life and culture and language forever; sowing the seeds of that culture in every corner of the globe.

Shot through with historical insight and imbued with the beliefs, traditions and superstitions, music, poetry and folk-tales which continue to fascinate tourists and mind-travellers alike. Written with passion and authority by one of Scotland's most respected public figures: writer, singer, teacher, and Gaelic-speaker, for the story of the Gaelic-speaking world has all too often been told by outsiders. Synopsis and opening chapters available July 2007.
