Harris, Heyns and Steinberg on UJ Prize Shortlist

May 15, 2009  Michiel Heyns' acclaimed novel BODIES POLITIC, set against the background of the struggle for the vote for women and the First World War, and centred on the Pankhurst family, has been shortlisted for the University of Johannesburg Prize. Also contending on the Main Prize shortlist is Jonny Steinberg's THREE-LETTER PLAGUE: A Young Man's Journey Through a Great Epidemic -  vivid narrative non-fiction examining the AIDS crisis in South Africa, focusing on one man's story.

In the Debut Prize section is Peter Harris's IN A DIFFERENT TIME: The Inside Story of the Delmas Four, a penetrating account of the mission, capture and trial of four ANC foot soldiers in the apartheid era.

The University of Johannesburg Prize is South Africa's second richest prize, with a Main Prize of R50,000 and a Debut Prize of R10,000. The prize winners will be announced within the next two weeks and the prizes will be presented at a gala ceremony later in the year.
