Andy Briggs' COUNCIL OF EVIL shortlisted for Children's Book of the Year

August 4, 2009 Andy Briggs' novel COUNCIL OF EVIL, the first installment in his exciting VILLAIN.NET series - the anti-series to HERO.COM - has reached the shortlist for the Bedfordshire Children's Book of the Year. The prize in the prestigious award is chosen by children, for children, with past winners including Michael Rosen and Anthony Horowitz, so Andy is in great company.

The VILLAIN.NET series (along with Andy's other series, HERO.COM) follows a group of teenagers who get to make the ultimate choice: they can download super-powers from the internet in order to become either heroes or villains. Published in tandem, either series stands alone, but they are perfect companion pieces, interweaving plot and character in places and providing an exciting, new take on an established genre, thrusting it into the present for the PlayStation Generation.

The third books in both series were released by Oxford University Press in July 2009. Rights to the series have been sold in the US, Germany, Thailand, Bulgaria, Romania, and the Czech Republic.

The shortlisted books will be read by all of the Chatterbooks reading groups in the country, and final voting will take place on October 11th. You can read more about the award here.
