Book launch at Foyles for Garen Ewing's graphic novel THE RAINBOW ORCHID

August 4, 2009 Garen Ewing is no stranger to popularity: his comic THE RAINBOW ORCHID has delighted fans since its first appearance in BAM! seven years ago. Last night, however, he had the chance to celebrate its publication by Egmont at Foyles bookshop, where fans and publishers turned out in droves to celebrate Egmont's long-awaited publication of Volume 1 of the Tintin-esque graphic novel.

Set in the 1920s, THE RAINBOW ORCHID is a tale of the search for a mythical flower last mentioned by the ancient Greek philosopher and botanist, Theophrastus. The story follows Julius Chancer, an assistant at the Ancient & Historical Research Agency, and his adventures in their quest for the legendary flower.

Described as 'enchantingly engaging' and '[a] cracking adventure tale', Garen's meticulously researched graphic novel captures the spirit of the 1920s. It won the Fool Britannia Webcomic of the Year prize in 2006, and it was a finalist in the Best New Talent and Best Independent Comic categories at the UK National Comic Awards in 2004.

All who attended the launch had a fantastic time indulging in flowing champagne and great conversations, and samples of Garen's artwork will be on display in the Foyles Gallery on Charing Cross Road until the end of the week. Garen also received a top-notch review from the Financial Times yesterday, which his fans can access here.

Garen's biography is available here.
