Saul Wordsworth through to semi-finals of Sitcom Trials

October 21, 2009 His script ALAN POB: WRITING WRONGS won the audience vote at both showcase performances at the Leicester Square Theatre last night, as well as securing the vote of the professional judges.

Five sitcoms were showcased with each having a ten minute performance to win over the audience and the judges. Each extract ended on a cliffhanger and the audience then voted for their favourite, with the winning entry performing the second half to reveal the ending.

Saul's hilarious script follows Alan Pob, a hapless half-Jew with a foxy narcoleptic flatmate who has quit his job to write a novel. Only he's not getting very far. Instead his days are spent meeting his old boss, visiting his Russian grandmother, dating inappropriate women and being short-changed at his local shop.

The panel of industry judges comprised David Quantick (TV BURP), David Schneider (I'M ALAN PARTRIDGE), Katie Tyrell (THE NOW SHOW) and Steve Keysworth (EASTENDERS).

The Sitcom Trials will showcase 20 sitcoms, selected from 400 scripts, and the Grand Final will take place on 1st December.
