Compelling memoir by new client Anne Watts to Simon & Schuster in the UK and Unieboek in Holland

October 9, 2008 Mathew Joyce - Kristal

Chris Kooi of Unieboek, who has bought Dutch rights to Anne Watts's gripping memoir ALWAYS THE CHILDREN: A Nurse's Story of Home and War, says the following: 'I'm really very pleased and honoured to bring these stories to a Dutch audience. As a child of lifelong aid workers I do not think that another book will cross my path that is so close to my own life and heart.'

Kerri Sharp of Simon & Schuster put in a passionate best bid to close the UK auction, and says: 'We are delighted to be publishing the extraordinary memoirs of Anne Watts, a truly remarkable woman whose account of nursing in the world's most troubled places are a rare and wonderful blend of drama and emotion - heart-breaking, heart-warming and inspirational all in one package, making for a great union of social history and personal story.

Anne is an exceptionally warm, good-humoured and wonderful story-teller - a true heroine in an age dominated by vanity and mediocrity. There is no shame in being moved to tears by her story - this is human emotion at its most honest and engaging.'

Simon & Schuster will publish in 2010. They have also bought rights to Anne's next book, with the working title FROM ESKIMO POINT TO ALICE SPRINGS. Here Anne will be writing about her experiences nursing among the Inuit and the Australian Aboriginal people, comparing her return there now to what the communities were like thirty years ago.
